The nanos and the wrimos
For NaNoWriMo this year (which I didn't do last year... or the year
before, I think. Don't remember), my project will be the continuation
of "All Applicants Welcome".
This'll be the first time I've done a fanfic, let alone one already in
progress. Usually, I come up with a new original story to tackle for
the month, for which I get 10K-20k words done on before it peters out
into a disappointing nothingness and spends the rest of it's
incomplete life languishing in my WiP folder. (The only exception was
my first NaNo effort, a young adult novel I wrote all 50K for that now
languishes in my To Be Edited/Rewritten folders. Much to
justnuts's dismay, as she's pretty fond
of the messy thing.)
But unlike an all-new-original story, AAW would grandly benefit from
even a measly 10K of new writing. I'll have to get a beta and resist
the urge to post new chapters as they're finished, though. I normally
super-edit and refine fanfic while writing it (often sentence by
sentence, and yes, this is part of what takes me so long with it).
This no-worky with keeping up with NaNo work count and the result it
going to be a little ugly, I fear.
Hm, I'll have to write up an outline in prep. Having a complete
outline was the only reason I finished my first NaNo project. Why I
didn't take this heart and make sure to draw up outlines for my other
attempts is beyond me.
