Winter chill and cheer

The holidays were an intersection of passing out early, getting up late, and then cooking and doing chores for ages. A cold front had moved in and my sinuses responded by cheerfully punching me in the face.
I had work for four hours Christmas Eve morning and while I get why they wanted the company open (they do communication, video, and security installations and support, and there are events on Christmas Eve that might have needed the support), I'm still not sure why I had to be there. The accounting books were closed, so I couldn't process invoices and everyone else's books were closed, so I couldn't do any collections work. I kept waddling around the office, mentally screaming "GIVE ME JOB, I WANT JOB" because I had literally nothing to do.
By noon, everyone except for me and the owner of the company had cleared out. I'd been told to stick around until 12:30, so I did, but it was honestly kind of dumb. Thank god the owner was still there, because I sure as fuck didn't know how to lock up and set the alarm.
That said, it was far from the worst experience I've had working on a holiday. I went to the craft store afterwards and found this cool, multicolored yarn that creates a tartan effect when worked up. I'm going to turn it into a blanket with my pin loom.
After the craft store was food shopping, then a ton of laundry, house cleaning, and weaving until I crashed.
Christmas day was all about the cooking. We had one of our good friends over and I made deviled eggs, roast chicken, mashed potatoes, creamed corn casserole, steamed broccoli, and raisin walnut bread for later. My friend made stuffing. The creamed corn casserole had been forgotten until everything else was nearly ready and I might have had a minor meltdown over it, but that was the only hiccup. The food turned out awesome.
After dinner, the three of us grabbed our phones, bundled up, and took a walk around playing Pokemon GO. We live near a livey downtown area with nearly a dozen Pokestops and gyms packed within a few blocks. It's always strange seeing how empty and quiet the area is during the holidays, given how active it is the entire rest of the year.
Back at home, we sat down for a round of Munchkin before our friend had to head home.
Overall, a pretty good holiday. I wished I'd been less wiped out by it all, but I think a lot of that had to do with the weather. It was extremely satisfying to put together a good meal, given how little I've been cooking lately. I've missed baking bread.
