AAW Chapter 4 Status: 4,443 words in draft, 0 words for the finalized piece.

Right now, the chapter is mainly Thundercracker showing Bluestreak around the apartment and giving him the run down on his new responsibilities. I'm a little worried that it's boring and not important enough to the over-all story, so it needs some refinement and maybe an additional scene with a different focus.

One thing I've wondered about with this fic -- I've wanted to give the impression that while sex/interfacing is absolutely something Cybertronians do, it's not considered an obligation of bond partners. In a contract boding, it has to be explicitly written in, and since Thundercracker never specified anything of the sort, Bluestreak doesn't have even a glimmer of a thought that Thundercracker is interested in banging him. (Any and all sexy times are gonna come after they have an emotional reason to get it on.) But since I am drawing a parallel between bonding and marriage, and I've never spelled out the above, I do wonder if any readers are anticipating that aspect to come up soon.

It's heading up to the high 90s today in good old Southern California, which means the A/C I sit under is being cranked up an extra few notches. I'm far more tolerant of heat than cold and I'm especially sensitive to moving air, so people come in sweaty and panting from the heat to see me bundled up in a shawl behind my desk with frozen fingers. I'd rather let the interior temperature be no more than ten degrees off from the outside, but I'm not the one who decides. Which is probably for the best!

I'm endlessly fascinated by different peoples' temperature tolerances. The wife was watching that British baking show a while back and in one episode, they were hit with a heat wave where they were stuck laboring their way through a sweltering 75 degrees Fahrenheit -- a pleasant spring day, according to our Californian sensibilities, but unbearable compared to what they were used to.

It's also interesting how very personally this conversation gets taken. I've read many an internet fight where people either get really haughty and mocking over their ability to endure certain weather conditions, or straight crawl up each other's asses about what's considered "hot enough to be miserable" or "cold enough to need a sweater".

Weather is one of those things that we have no control over, but can have such a massively huge impact on our comfort level and day-to-day lives, so it makes sense that we all get so worked up over it.
